Copper Thefts at Greenwich Construction Sites Lead to Arrest After Suspect Sells Metal for Scrap

The thefts took place in October at a home construction site and Greenwich Country Day School, according to reports.

A man is facing larceny charges in connection with the theft of copper gutters and roofing panels from Greenwich construction sites, according to reports.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Andrew J. Woltmann, 31, of 14 Ohio Ave., Norwalk, was arrested Dec. 8 after Norwalk Police took him into custody for unspecified reasons. Woltmann is facing third-degree and fifth-degree larceny charges in connection with thefts reported on Oct. 14, according to the report.

Woltmann is accused of stealing the copper materials from a construction site on Alpine Lane and more than 100 feet of copper gutters and about 10 copper gutter elbow joints from a construction site at Greenwich Country Day School, according to The Advocate. Woltmann is accused of selling the metal as scrap at Rubino Brothers scrap metal in Stamford, receiving several hundred dollars.

Woltmann remains in custody unable to post $2,500 bond and is scheduled to return to state Superior Court in Stamford on Jan. 6, according to the Connecticut Judical Branch website.
