Expect Traffic Delays for Wednesday Police Funeral Procession
The funeral for Greenwich Police Sgt. Roger Petrone Jr. will be held at St. Mary Church on Greenwich Avenue Wednesday morning.
The funeral for retired Greenwich Police Sgt. Roger Petrone Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The funeral procession will leave the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich, about 9:30 a.m. and proceed down Greenwich Avenue to Bruce Place. The procession will pause in front Greenwich Police headquarters for a final salute from department personnel.
Greenwich Police said motorists in the downtown Greenwich Avenue area should expect travel restrictions and delays.
After leaving police headquarters, the motorcade will proceed up Mason Street to Lewis Street where it will turn onto Greenwich Avenue to St. Mary Church. Officers from the area are expected to attend.
Sgt. Petrone passed away at his home in Stamford on Feb. 20, 2014, after a six-and-a-half-year fight with ALS. He was 44.
He achieved his lifelong dream in October 1994 by becoming a police officer with the Town Of Greenwich. He was promoted in 2003 to the rank of sergeant. He served with the Marine Division, the Special Response Unit, SCUBA Team and as a Field Training Officer. Sgt. Petrone received several commendations during his career before illness forced his retirement in 2012.
