Good Samaritan Saves Greenwich Woman's Handbag from Purse Snatcher

The strong-arm robbery took place in downtown Greenwich.

A Good Samaritan saved the day for an elderly Greenwich woman whose purse was snatched from her when she was a downtown Greenwich parking lot Monday.

Here is how Greenwich Police spokesman, Lt. Kraig Gray explained what happened.

The unidentified woman was in a parking lot on Amogerone Crossway — off Greenwich Avenue — Monday morning when a “short, stocky man snatched her purse. The Good Samaritan chased down the suspect and got the woman’s purse back,” Gray said.

It apparently was quite a sprint for the 24-year-old samaritan who lives in Stamford — he ran nearly three blocks, through the Amogerone Crossway municipal parking lot to Lewis Street, turned left and was able to tackle the thief near Mason Street.

It doesn’t appear the victim was injured in the strong-arm robbery. And as of Monday evening, police were still looking for the suspect, according to police reports.
