Greenwich Driver Faces DWI Charge Following Crash
Following a Friday afternoon crash, a 63-year-old man was arrested by Greenwich Police.

The driver of one of the vehicles involved in a minor crash Friday afternoon on Railroad Avenue is facing a driving while intoxicated charge.
According to a Greenwich Police report, officers found one of the drivers had an odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath as well as glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. After failing field sobriety tests, Paul E. Backus, 63, who gave an address of 7 Pleasant St., Cos Cob, was arrested, according to the report.
Backus also was ticketed with failure to signal after officers determined that “he turned unsafely into traffic, causing the accident,” that was reported at 4:36 p.m. Sept. 26, according to the report. And because he apparently did not have a valid insurance card inside his vehicle, he also was cited for operating without insurance.
