Greenwich Educator Hired as Assistant Principal for Darien Elementary School

Alex Harvey, instructional coach for public elementary schools in Greenwich, is hired as assistant principal for Darien's Holmes School.

An announcement from Darien Public Schools:

The Darien Board of Education, at its meeting of Sept. 9, unanimously appointed Mr. Alex Harvey as Assistant Principal of Holmes School.

For the past two years, Mr. Harvey has served as a District Instructional Coach with the Greenwich Public Schools where he works with kindergarten through Grade 5 teachers on strengthening mathematics instruction.

He provides support through coaching cycles, consultations and professional development workshops focusing on effective instructional strategies.

He also leads the Elementary Math Assessment Cadre which develops district assessments aligned to common core state standards.

Harvey brings extensive experience using student performance data and working with district and school-based data teams. Prior to his appointment as an instructional coach, Mr. Harvey was a fourth and fifth grade classroom teacher in Greenwich for 12 years.

Mr. Harvey earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Arts from Villanova University. He also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching as well as a Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University.

Upon his appointment, Harvey commented, “I am overjoyed to be selected as the next assistant principal for Holmes School, and I thank the Darien Board of Education for this exciting opportunity.

Throughout the selection process, I have come to know Darien as a place of integrity and respect, and I can’t wait to begin working with the students, staff, parents, and principal of Holmes School.”

Mr. Harvey will begin his work at Holmes School as soon as a mutually-agreed-upon release date can be finalized with his current district.
