Greenwich Man Is Accused of Stealing, Pawning Jewelry
The suspect was hired to do some work around the victim's home, according to police.

A man hired to do some work at a Greenwich woman’s residence has been arrested on charges he stole more than $10,000 worth of jewelry and then pawned it at a shop in neighboring Port Chester.
The victim was an acquaintance of the suspect whom she hired to perform work around her home in September. “While he was there, he had discussed opening a pawn shop as a business venture,” according to Lt. Kraig Gray.
At some point, the victim realized some of her jewelry was missing. “He entered the house and stole a very expensive watch and a lot of jewelry worth in excess of $10,000,” Gray said. The victim went to the Deja Vu Consignment Boutique in Port Chester and found her missing watch valued at $7,000, according to Gray.

That’s when she contacted Greenwich Police who began their investigation and gathered enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Marcelo F. Furtado, 32, of 273 Delavan Ave., Greenwich. Furtado was arrested Oct 20 on charges of third-degree larceny and second-degree harassment. Because police were able to recover the one watch, Furtado was charged with the third-degree larceny charge.
The harassment charge stems from Furtado allegedly contacting the victim after she notified police of the theft, Gray said.

While in police custody, it was determined there were three outstanding arrest warrants each charging Furtado with violation of probation stemming from incidents in 2012 and 2013. He was held on a total of $100,000 bond on all four arrest warrants.
