The teen claimed two masked men assaulted him and stole jewelry worth thousands of dollars, according to Greenwich Police.

A Greenwich teen is facing a plethora of charges after he allegedly staged what was initially reported as a home invasion during which he was assaulted and thousands of dollars in jewelry were stolen.

The 17-year-old is accused of plotting the Nov. 17 incident with a friend and then calling Greenwich Police to report the incident that turned out to be a hoax, according to Greenwich Police. The teen, who is not being identified because of his age, called police about 1:30 p.m. Nov. 17 to report that two masked men, dressed in black, entered his Davis Avenue home and assaulted him before stealing about $11,500 in jewelry that belonged to the suspect’s mother’s boyfriend, according to a police report.

Investigators determined the teen “conspired with one of his friends to stage the home invasion, assault and larceny,” according to the report. Investigators recovered the jewelry, according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. Gray said the “apartment was trashed” during the incident.
