Greenwich YMCA, Susan G. Komen Connecticut To Host Breast Cancer Awareness Program

Program speakers include a physician, the Komen CT CEO and a breast cancer survivor.

The Greenwich YMCA and Susan G. Komen Connecticut will host an educational program on the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer on Oct. 22.

The hourlong program — which starts at 10 a.m. — also will feature the men and women whose work is making a difference in the fight against breast cancer, as well as a patient discussing their survival journey.

The program is free and open to the public.

Dr. David Gruen

David Gruen, MD, MBA, is the Director of Breast Imaging, and co-director of the breast care program at Stamford healthcare system in Stamford. Gruen, who holds an MBA with a focus in business and healthcare management, is a seasoned clinician and health care leader with extensive experience in all aspects of local and national healthcare. Gruen is a regarded expert in all expects of diagnostic imaging, with particular expertise in breast care, including digital mammography, 3D tomosynthesis mammography; breast and women’s MRI, ultrasound, and interventional procedures.

Anne Morris

Anne Morris is the CEO of the Susan G. Komen Connecticut. As CEO, she is responsible for fundraising, fiscal and administrative management, outreach and grant making for the organization. In her eight years at Komen Connecticut, Morris has led the organization to an unprecedented double digit annual growth in revenue and has increased the Affiliate’s visibility throughout the state. For each of the past three years, Komen Connecticut has funded close to $1 million in community grants to local breast health organizations providing services to women in need.

Geordan Mandell

Geordan Mandell was diagnosed with Stage 1, grade 3 HER2 positive breast cancer on March 4th 2014 at the age of 28.

About the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen®

Komen’s presence in Connecticut began in 1994 with a Race for the Cure. The local organization was incorporated as an Affiliate of Susan G. Komen in 1999. Komen Connecticut serves local communities by providing funding for research and local life-saving programs which address education, screening and treatment for Connecticut residents. Over the past four years Komen Connecticut has invested approximately $4 million towards local breast health programs.
