Intense Cold, Fog, Snow Heading Greenwich's Way

The recent colder temperatures (not counting Sunday’s warmth) were just a preview of what’s to come this week. The following forecast is from the National Weather Service. A special weather statement was issued for the Greenwich area, warning residents of dense fog.

• Sunday, Jan. 4: Showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a chance of showers between midnight and 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Areas of fog before 1 a.m. Low around 33. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.

• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 17. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 8 to 13 mph after midnight.

• Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. West wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

• Tuesday Night: A slight chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 5. Blustery.

• Thursday: Sunny and cold, with a high near 16.

• Thursday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

• Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 29. Breezy.
