Intense Cold, Fog, Snow Heading Greenwich's Way
If your house's pipes are prone to freezing, now is the time to prepare for that possibility!
The recent colder temperatures (not counting Sunday’s warmth) were just a preview of what’s to come this week. The following forecast is from the National Weather Service. A special weather statement was issued for the Greenwich area, warning residents of dense fog.
- Sunday, Jan. 4: Showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a chance of showers between midnight and 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Areas of fog before 1 a.m. Low around 33. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.
- Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 17. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 8 to 13 mph after midnight.
- Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. West wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
- Tuesday Night: A slight chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 5. Blustery.
- Thursday: Sunny and cold, with a high near 16.
- Thursday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 29. Breezy.
