Just Across the Greenwich Border -- 'Barber of Seville'
The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College kicks off a new classic opera film series this weekend.

Greenwich opera lovers can take a “virtual voyage” to Paris, Berlin, and Vienna, as The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College presents ‘Opera at The Cinema,’ a new series of film screenings of classic operas, shown in high-definition on the big screen in the PepsiCo Theatre.
The series will feature the brightest stars performing on the world’s greatest stages — the next best thing to being there.
Gioachino Rossini’s Barber of Seville will be screened at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 at The Center, 735 Anderson Hill Rd., just off King Street, in Purchase, NY.

Sung in Italian at the Opera de Paris in September 2014, the production starts Rene Barbera, Carlo Lepore, Karine Deshayes, Dalibor Jenis and Orlin Anastassov.
It may have been a resounding flop upon its premiere in 1816, but Rossini’s opera buffa has become one of the most famous and revered works in the history of music and an eternal source of delight. Carlo Montanaro conducts and Damiano Michieletto directs.
