Convicted Felon Had Illegal Loaded Gun in Greenwich: PD

The convicted felon's gun's magazine is classified as high capacity under Connecticut law.

Greenwich, CT- A truck driver was arrested after police found a .40 caliber handgun in his commercial vehicle, according to police.

State Police arrested Carlos Echevarria, 37, of Hollywood, Fla. at the Greenwich weigh station. He was there for a routine check.

He said he was in possession of a handgun and said it was in the compartment behind the driver's seat, said Trooper First Class Kelly Grant, police spokesman.

The loaded .40 caliber handgun was seized by police.

Echevvaria doesn't have a Connecticut weapons permit, the gun had a 12-round magazine and he had a prior felony conviction.

He was charged with weapon in a motor vehicle, violation of the large magazine requirement, criminal possession of a pistol and possession of a pistol without a permit.

He was held on a $25,000 bond.
