Marie Amoruso Receives Greenwich Pen Women's 2014 Owl Award

Marie Amoruso, a distinguished educator and writer, received the 2014 Owl Award at the Greenwich Pen Women’s Annual Holiday Luncheon.

The organization’s highest honor, the award is given to the member whose contribution in her field, her community and the organization is outstanding. In addition to her many achievement in and efforts on behalf of the teaching profession, Amoruso co-authored “Grandma Needs a Nap,” a children’s book for the whole family, and participated in “Kids Write Now” a poetry workshop for middle schoolers at the Byram Shubert Library.

The award was presented to her by Joyce French, former President and current Parliamentarian, after which the honoree received a standing ovation.

President Deb Weir welcomed everyone to the luncheon, which was held on Thursday, December 18th at the Greenwich Country Club. The afternoon included “Words and Music” a program designed by Marcia Clay Hamilton to demonstrate how music affects how we hear the written word. In addition to Hamilton, members Joyce Di Camillo, Julie Dolphin and Claudia Dumschat participated. Cristina Madero, a young singer, who clearly is Broadway bound, added her powerful voice to the festivities.

Membership in Greenwich Pen Women, a branch of the National League of American Pen Women, is open to professional writers, artists and musicians.
