Marshall E. Winokur, 86; Retired Lawyer, Old Greenwich Resident
A memorial service will be held Dec. 18.

Marshall Edwin Winokur, a retired lawyer, died in Old Greenwich on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014. He was 86.
Mr. Winokur was born Nov. 3, 1928 in Chicago, IL. He spent his youth growing up in Benton Harbor, MI and Chicago.
He graduated from The University of Chicago and received his law degree from Northwestern University where he was on the Law Review. Mr. Winokur was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably in Japan during the Korean War.

Mr. Winokur was in private practice and set up a law office with his wife Rae in Chicago. They worked together for more than 40 years. He was highly respected in the Chicago law community and was active in the Chicago Bar Association, serving on numerous committees. He was frequently retained as a consultant by his colleagues in the legal community for complex cases.
Mr. Winokur retired to Old Greenwich to be near his family in 1993. He enjoyed books and learning, wisdom and justice. He encouraged and inspired everyone he met to pursue truth and beauty and to be the best person possible. Everyone who knew him was captivated by his kindness, quick wit and caring ways.

He is survived his wife of 57 years, Rae Winokur of Chicago; his daughter, Bonnie Bancroft and her husband Ned, of Old Greenwich, and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Winifred, Cornelius and George.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at the Putnam Cemetery, 35 Parsonage Rd., Greenwich.
