Update: Westchester Woman Was Enroute to Work When She Was Struck Crossing King Street in Greenwich

Greenwich Police say the victim got off a Bee-Line bus and was hit by a car as she crossed the road Tuesday morning.

Update: 4:18 p.m.

The identity of the 51-year-old Elmsford, NY woman who was struck and killed by a car as she crossed King Street is expected to be released on Wednesday, according to Greenwich Police.

The woman, identified as a housekeeper enroute with a co-worker to their jobs at a Greenwich home, was hit by a Mitsubishi Eclipse that was being driven northbound on King Street at the intersection of Anderson Hill Road about 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. The driver, identified as a man from New York State, was not injured, Gray said.

Neither the driver nor the victim’s co-worker were injured, Gray said.

The women had disembarked a Westchester County Bee-Line bus and were crossing the road when the crash occurred. Gray said that investigators are withholding the victim’s identity so that her family can notify extended family who live out of the country. He did not know her native country.

Traffic Technician Roger Drenth is heading the investigation which prompted a closure of the road during the morning commute Tuesday. It did not appear weather was a factor as it was not snowing at the time, Gray said.

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash and ask that they contact Drenth at 203-622-8014, Gray said.

Update: 11:20 a.m.

Greenwich Police have released this statement regarding the fatal pedestrian accident on King Street.

“Shortly before 7:00 AM this morning a 51-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car as she crossed King Street at Anderson Hill Road.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed the deceased is a resident of Elmsford, NY and this morning she and a co-worker traveled to Greenwich on a Westchester County mass transportation Bee-Line bus. After exiting the bus, the victim began to the cross from the west side of King Street to the east side. The deceased was struck by a passenger car in the easternmost lane of northbound traffic.

“The deceased suffered severe injuries and was transported to the Greenwich Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The operator, and sole occupant of the passenger car, was not injured.

“The deceased name will not be released pending the notification of her extended family.

“The Greenwich Police Department Traffic Section is conducting the investigation. If anyone was a witness to the accident please contact Traffic Technician Drenth at (203) 622-8014.”

Update: 10:45 a.m.

Greenwich Police reportedly identified the victim as a woman in her 50s from the White Plains, NY area.

The victim may have traveled to the area by bus before she was struck by a vehicle shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to LoHud.com.

Greenwich Police said they will release more information later Tuesday morning.

An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on King Street early Tuesday, according to Greenwich Police.

Members of the department’s Traffic Section are at the scene investigating and as a result, King Street at Anderson Hill Road will be closed for some time, according to police.

Check back for details as police say they will have more information to release later Tuesday morning.
