Second Congregational Church To Host Greenwich CROP Hunger Walk Oct. 5 To Fight Hunger Locally and Worldwide

Members of Greenwich, Port Chester and Rye churches will walk to alleviate hunger Oct. 5 in an event hosted by Second Congregational Church.

Second Congregational Church in Greenwich, Connecticut, will host the seventh annual Greenwich CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, Oct. 5, beginning at 2 p.m., rain or shine. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m.

Teams and individuals from Second Congregational Church and other churches in Greenwich and in Port Chester and Rye, New York, are expected to participate in a two-mile walk beginning at Second Church, at 139 E. Putnam Ave. (at Maple Avenue), and ending at Christ Church, at 254 E. Putnam Ave. in Greenwich.

Held all around the United States for nearly 50 years, with more than 1,600 walks last year alone, CROP Hunger Walks raise awareness about hunger, as well as money to help feed families around the world. They support the ministry of Church World Service, an ecumenical Christian service agency. In addition, donations to the Greenwich walk will benefit Neighbor to Neighbor of Greenwich and the Carver Center of Port Chester.

Found in places near and far, hunger is one of the world’s most pressing problems, but solutions are within reach. Learning more about hunger and donating to the local CROP Hunger Walk is a great way to contribute to those solutions.

“It’s so important for faith communities and all thoughtful people to reach across divisions of background and tradition and town, and come together to end food insecurity, especially in our region,” said the Rev. Maxwell Grant, Senior Minister of Second Congregational Church. “This is a problem we can solve if we want to. I’m proud that so many local churches have decided to be part of the solution.”

So get out your walking shoes and join a team, start a team, sign up as an individual walker – or take out your pen and find a team or a walker to support. Bring a dog or someone with whom you’ve been meaning to catch up for a while. No matter what the weather is like, it will be a beautiful day.
