Sylvia Aboud, 81; Clothing Designer, Artist
Mrs. Aboud's funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Sylvia Aboud, resident of Greenwich, died on Dec. 30, 2013 at Greenwich Hospital. She was 81.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1932 to Esther Strasner and Jack Rabkin and was formerly married to the late Morris Aboud, the sculptor.
She graduated from Prospect Heights High School in 1950 and Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T), class of 1954. Mrs. Aboud was a talented artist as well as a clothing designer and pattern maker. She worked for Sleep-Ease Pajama Co. before becoming a homemaker in Riverdale, NY where she lived for most of her life. In 1974, she returned to work at NuVenture Maternities as a designer, pattern maker and production manager until her retirement in 1999.
Mrs. Aboud and her family spent many enjoyable summers at Ocean Bay Park in Fire Island, NY. She Volunteered at the Spuyten Duyvil Public Library in Riverdale.
Sylvia is survived by her two daughters; Karen Hauben and husband Jason of Darien, and Julie Aboud of La Jolla, CA; three grandchildren, Madeleine, Lauren and William Hauben; brothers Eddie, Dennis and Alan Strasner, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home, 71 Parsonage Rd., Greenwich.
Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
