Thieves Continue to Target Parked Cars in Greenwich
Greenwich Police say residents are setting themselves up as targets by leaving valuables in unlocked cars.

An unlocked car parked in the driveway of a MacArthur Drive home in Old Greenwich was targeted by a thief who stole a quantity of loose change overnight Sunday, according to Greenwich Police.
Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said the theft was reported Monday, Sept. 15 by the resident who left the money in their unlocked car. Gray said that a resident on nearby Halsey Drive also reported seeing a suspicious person in the area of their backyard and driveway after motion-sensor outdoor lights were activated.
“We’ve had a couple of larcenies from motor vehicles and attempts. Vehicles always left unlocked with valuable items inside is like leaving bait out for a scavenger” Gray said.

Gray added, “Don’t leave coins, money, valuables in cars it’s just bait for these people who are desperate.”
In mid August, police received numerous reports of thefts from unlocked cars parked in the Byram neighborhood on the western end of town. Police said at the time that one vehicle was stolen from a Byram Shore Road home where the owner left the keys inside.
