Veteran Educator Appointed Central Middle School Assistant Principal

Stratford Public Schools Assistant Principal Shamain Johnson assumed the Greenwich post July 16.

Veteran Educator Appointed Central Middle School Assistant Principal

An assistant principal and veteran teacher from Stratford has been appointed the new assistant principal in Greenwich's Central Middle School.

The appointment of Shamain Johnson, effective July 16, was announced by Schools Superintendent William S. McKersie. Until her Greenwich appointment, Johnson served as assistant principal and Early Learning Services Coordinator for the Stratford Public Schools.

McKersie said, "We had a strong candidate pool for the CMS Assistant Principal position. It is a compliment for all of us that we have landed the proven talent of Ms. Johnson. We look forward to her joining our leadership ranks."

Central Middle School Principal Shelley Somers said in a statement, “We are anxious to welcome Shamain to Central Middle School. She impressed us with her range of experience, innovative approach to problem-solving, and excellent leadership skill for establishing collaborative learning communities. She clearly understands and enjoys working with middle school-aged students and has a strong vision for improving student engagement and achievement.”

An educator for 16 years, Johnson began her career in Hamden where she worked as a as a lead teacher. She also worked as a Stamford special education teacher for two years before joining the Stratford Public School system in 2005.

For nine years, she has served as an administrator and teacher for students from preschool through Grade 12 in Stratford. Johnson also has been an adjunct professor at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, since 2009.

Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, a Master's in Learning Disabilities, and a Sixth-Year Professional Diploma for Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
