WEATHER UPDATE: Ice Storm of Long Duration Could Hit Greenwich
The National Weather Service is now predicting that the precipitation will be more ice than snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for a “long duration weather event” beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting into Monday night.
So you’re thinking that must mean a lot of snow? Not exactly. In fact, little snow accumulation is expected.

Then why the Hazardous Weather Outlook? It appears a majority of the precipitation will be in the form of freezing rain.
“At this time it appears that the region could have freezing rain along with minor snow accumulation that would cause significant travel problems,” the National Weather Service is predicting.

Total ice accumulation could be a half-inch.

Here is the latest Greenwich weather forecast from the National Weather Service:
- Today: A slight chance of snow after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Tonight: A slight chance of snow before 9pm, then a chance of snow and freezing rain between 9pm and midnight, then a chance of rain and snow after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 31. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Sunday: A chance of rain and snow, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Sunday Night: Snow and freezing rain likely, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Monday: Snow and freezing rain likely before 9am, then rain and snow between 9am and 3pm, then snow and freezing rain after 3pm. High near 34. Northeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Monday Night: Snow and freezing rain likely before 3am, then a slight chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.
- Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14.
