Wrong-way Driver on Greenwich Avenue Faces DUI Charge

Greenwich Police say the driver was headed towards them as they patrolled the downtown business district.

A motorist seen driving the wrong way towards Greenwich Police patrolling the one-way Greenwich Avenue is facing a driving under the influence charge.

According to a Greenwich Police report, officers were southbound on Greenwich Avenue near Havemeyer Place about 1:20 a.m. Nov. 21 when a Nissan Altima came towards them, driving northbound.

The driver reportedly had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech, an odor of alcohol on his person and breath and did not perform field sobriety tests to standards, according to the report.

Officers charged John G. Davis III, 39, who gave an address of 2646 Boston Post Rd., Darien, was charged with DUI and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 5 in state Superior Court in Stamford
