Youths Arrested for Burglary

Greenwich Police responded to a report of youths attempting to break into vehicles on Cos Cob Avenue.

Youths Arrested for Burglary

Three juveniles, ages 15, 16 and 17, were arrested and each charged with burglary and larceny on Dec. 7 after they were caught trying to burglarize several vehicles on Cos Cob Avenue.

Police responded to a report of two youths attempting to break into vehicles on Cos Cob Avenue around 3 a.m. On arrival officers observed four youths, one of whom fled on foot. The other three — two from Mamaroneck, one from Port Chester — were detained, according to a police report.

Witnesses identified one teen as being one of the youths trying to enter vehicles. A search of the vehicle the youths arrived in revealed items which did not belong to them — however, the report did not specify what the items were.

Police interviewed the trio at police headquarters with their parents present. The youths gave conflicting accounts as to why they were in the area and as to what had transpired, police said.

The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were each charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny. The 17-year-old was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, driving a motor vehicle without a license and operating a motor vehicle without the owner's permission.

All three were scheduled to appear Dec. 12 in the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
