15-Year-Old Student Charged With Bringing Knife To School

Groton City Police charged a 15-year-old student Thursday after he brought a knife to the Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut.

The young man, who was not identified because of his age, was charged at 10:26 a.m. with possession of a dangerous instrument.

“It was juvenile who brought a knife to school and another student mentioned it to one of the school staff, and they searched his backpack and found it,” Groton City Police Chief Thomas Davoren said.

He added: “There was no indication of any threat to anyone at the school.”

Principal Nicholas Spera said no one was targeted and it was an isolated possession of an item. "We can't discuss student discipline, however, we are always making sure that all students are safe," he said.

The young man’s guardian responded to the school and were issued a summons. The boy's court date was unavailable.
