Hamden Hall Country Day School is once again hosting a sports clinic for girls ages 8 to 14 in celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

The complimentary clinic on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon, instructs young ladies in the fundamentals of basketball, swimming, volleyball, dance, field hockey and soccer. Participants will select four sports and receive hands-on coaching on each during half-hour blocks.

This is the school’s third Girls in Sports clinic.  Last year’s event attracted participants from all over the Greater New Haven area.  All of the various clinics are taught by coaches of Hamden Hall’s premier athletic teams and their varsity players.

The event takes place at Hamden Hall’s Beckerman Athletic Center on Skiff Street.  The complimentary program is open to the public; however, reservations are required.

“We are once again opening our doors to the community so that young women can learn about sports and to also bring about greater visibility and awareness of women’s athletic programs,” said Hamden Hall Athletic Director David Doyle.  “This has become an annual event that has grown in popularity with young ladies who are eager to hone their athletic prowess in any number of sports offerings.”

National Girls & Women in Sports Day is being recognized across the country on Feb. 5 by sports educators, coaches, athletic directors and others who want to show their support of female athletes and programs.  This year’s theme is “Passing the Torch, Blazing the Trail.”

Hamden Hall Head of School Bob Izzo noted that girls of all skill levels are encouraged to attend the special sports clinic.

“One of our core values at Hamden Hall is participation,” said Izzo. “Hamden Hall expects its students to be active participants in the life of the school and this clinic is no different. We encourage girls of all abilities to join us and engage in this instructional and fun program.”

Hamden Hall Country Day School, the nation’s fourth country day school, has been helping students reach their full potential academically, socially, physically, and artistically for 100 years.  Since its founding in 1912, the school’s mission has been to challenge PreSchool through Grade 12 students to develop a strong sense of personal integrity, social responsibility and a global perspective while preparing them for demanding academic programs at the collegiate level.  Hamden Hall is a coeducational college preparatory school that enrolls students from over 35 communities.
