Raging Garage Fire Spread To House But Family Escaped Blaze
A raging garage fire on Avery Hill Road that spread to a home was knocked down by firefighters. A family and their pets escaped unharmed.

LEDYARD, CT—Firefighters battled a raging garage fire Sunday that quickly spread to the second floor and attic of an Avery Hill Road home. Just after 3 p.m., an emergency dispatcher said they could hear the "crackling from the fire." The Ledyard Fire Department and Gales Ferry Volunteer Firefighters companies responded along with the fire chief and found the garage right next to the home engulfed in flames.
According to the Ledyard Fire Company Facebook post, "...crews were faced with a live power line, which was down across the driveway. The fire was spreading rapidly to the main residence. A crew entered the structure and found fire on the second floor and in the attic. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in the residence quickly, preventing a total loss to the home."
Two people and "pets" escaped the house and were not injured, but can't return to their house for now due to "minor fire and heavy water damage," but Ledyard Fire said the "majority of their personal belongings will be recovered, due to a quick response by our volunteers." It was reported that a car was destroyed in the fire.
