Three Ledyard High School finalists read their speeches to the Ledyard Rotary Club for a prize.

VIDEO: Three Speeches on the Four-Way Test

Congratulations to the three finalists who read their speeches to Ledyard Rotarians; each one walked away with prize money! The challenge was to write a speech that incorporated the Rotary Club’s Four-Way Test, then read the speech aloud to a room of Rotarians, who would then nominate the speech that best illustrated their guiding principles.

The Rotary Club's Four-Way Test asks, is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? And, will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Kimberly Codding, who's no stranger to Rotary Club speech contests, took first place; Tess Candler took second and Colton Day took third place. They were awarded $300, $200 and $100 respectively.

"I commend them for stepping out of their comfort zone," said Ledyard Rotary President Fred Allyn, III. "Public speaking isn't easy, you really have to work at it."

The winner of this contest will advance to a district competition, if one is announced.
