Women's Club Of Madison Named Civic Heroes!

The Women's Club of Madison was recently honored by the CT Food Bank, which bestowed the Civic Hero Award on the Madison group for its work on behalf of people in Madison who need help from the town's food pantry.

Women's clubs from all over the state had a goal of raising $25,00 and 50,000 pounds of food. Instead, they raised $44,00 and 63,000 pounds of food. The Women's Club of Madison donated more than $7,000 to the Madison Food bank and contributed more than 2,000 volunteer hours.

Katherine DeBurra, president of the Women's Club of Madison, said she and her group were thrilled to get the award. More important, she said, was the thought that they were helping people who really need help.

"The mere thought of a child being hungry is not something that we can even bear to think of. Any individual going hungry is unthinkable," she said. "We are glad that our work helped to alleviate hunger. These economic times make these services needed more than ever."
