Local Restaurant Conducts Fundraiser for Family of Popular Security Guard Who Died at Manchester High School

Barry "Mitch" Mitchell died unexpectedly at Manchester High School last week.

MANCHESTER, CT — Townsfolk gathered at a local restaurant on Thursday to pay their respects to a popular Manchester High School security guard whose untimely death last week sent shock waves throughout the community. The restaurant, in turn, pledged to donate a portion of the night's receipts to his family.

Barry "Mitch" Mitchell worked at Manchester High School for 18 years as a security guard. He died the morning of Jan. 4 after having what police described as a medical emergency on campus.

Maggie McFly's in the Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall hosted what owners called a "give-back night" at the restaurant on Thursday. Owners said they would be donating 15 percent of the gross dinner receipts to Mitchell's family.
