Fire Destroys Camper On Groton Property: Police

Emergency crews responded to a call early Sunday morning reporting a camper fully engulfed in flames.

GROTON, CT — Police are investigating a fire that broke out early Sunday morning. The Groton Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a fire at 300 Flanders Road in the Mystic section of town at 12:10 a.m.

The caller said that a camper located in the front yard was fully engulfed in flames.

Police responded and confirmed the report, finding a 35-foot tow-behind camper on fire.

No one was inside the camper at the time of the blaze, according to police. No injuries were reported. The home on the property suffered minor damage in the form of melted siding. No residents were displaced.

Members of the Mystic Fire Department, Old Mystic Fire Department, Noank Fire Department, North Stonington Fire Department, Groton Ambulance, and L&M Paramedics responded and helped those affected by the fire.

Another fire was reported at the same address March 10, 2022.

A 70-year-old woman had been located in the home and was transported to L&M Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. That fire investigation revealed the cause of the fire to be accidental, according to police.

The incident is still under investigation.
