13th Annual Wall Of Art Contest

More than 20 Milford students awarded for artwork.

Students' winning artwork was displayed this weekend at the Firehouse Art Gallery.

A panel of local artists and residents judged the artwork blindly -- unaware of the young artists' names.

The winning artwork was displayed at the Firehouse Art Gallery at 81 Naugatuck Ave. after being shown at the Milford Pediatric Group, a proud sponsor of the event.

Art submissions were divided into categories according to grade level.

Best in show was awarded to Daniel Mahroos for his picture-- “Vigilance.” Daniel received $200 and was asked to paint a mural that will be added to the "Wall Of Art" and featured at The Walnut Beach Arts Festival on Aug. 7.  Daniel, a 14-year-old Milford resident, is a sophomore at Co-Operative Arts & Humanities School in New Haven.

Grade 9 - 12 Category: Tyler Macey from Jonathan Law HS won first place for “Owl.” Kim Panettieri, from Foran HS came in second for “Fleur De Jolie,” and Rebecca Greenberg from Foran took third for “Mermaid.” 

Honorable mentions went to Vanessa Jamieson from Cooperative Arts & Humanities for “Untitled” and Esha Peshmelch from Jonathan Law for “Tiger Animal".

Grade 6 - 8 Category:  Julia Mahroos from Harborside Elementary School finished first for her “Mystical Sea.” She also came in third place for her picture "Country Side." Dan Ouellett from Harborside came in second for “City Corner,"

Honorable mentions went to Jenna Ball from Harborside for “Beach House,” Sean Clark from West Shore for “Wild Squares” and Olivia D’Andrea from Harborside for “Waterfall.”

Grade 3 -5  Category: Julia Harrington from Orchard Hills took first place with her “Wonders of Sea Glass.” Olivia Loo, from Calf Pen Meadow, to second place for her “Me and Shadow” and third for her “Girl.”

Honorable mentions went to Rosalie Filippone from Calf Pen Meadow for “Self Portrait,” Kruttika Gopal from Meadowside for ”Rangoli” and Chris Kiley from Calf Pen Meadow for “Gecko."

K - 2 Category: first place was garndered by "3 Little Chicks" by April Smith; second place, "Sunset's Beauty" by Cole Heitman; and third place, "Delicious Basket" by Pardhip Nair.

Honorable mentions for this category went to William Frick for "Charles Island," Rayford Bromley for "4 Seasons" and "Flower" by Shruti Agarwal.

The winners took their artwork home Sunday. But all other submissions -- there were nearly 90 in total -- may be viewed at SoBoBo Gallery & Consortium at 42 Naugatuck Ave. on Aug. 6 and 7.
