Milford Schools Back in Session Tomorrow, Nov. 5

Buses will be operating on a normal schedule, but there will be a slightly altered lunch menu, the superintendent says.

Milford Schools Back in Session Tomorrow, Nov. 5

After a week off due to the damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy, Milford students will return to school on Monday, Nov. 5.

Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Feser announced the news tonight in an open letter to parents. She wrote:

This message is for all Milford Public School Families,

This is Dr. Feser, Superintendent of Schools with a message about school re-opening.

I am pleased to inform you that all Milford Public Schools will be open tomorrow, Monday, November 5th.

All of our schools have power and heat, are safe, and have been cleared to open. Lunch will be served, as normal, but with a slightly altered menu. You should also know that our buses will be operating as normal.

While we needed to make sure our buildings were ready to have students return, you should also know we really thought about our families when making this decision to open tomorrow. When storms of this magnitude occur, the best thing for children – especially very young ones – is to return to their normal routine. Going to school is familiar and comforting for them – and this was a primary factor in making the decision to open. We thank you for your patience and support and are looking forward to seeing and welcoming your children back on Monday.

As for Tuesday, November 6th, as you are aware it is Election Day and school will be closed. Some of you have requested that we bring the students in to make up a day from last week. However, several of our schools are used as polling places, and with 80% of voters expected to cast their votes, the volume of traffic, inadequate parking, the inability to access the lunchrooms in some buildings, and overall distraction created by media and campaign workers makes it impossible to bring students in – so we will be closed on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, November 7th, we will resume our normal schedule and everyone will be back in school once again.

So again, school will be open tomorrow, Monday, November 5th. School will be closed on Tuesday, the 6th and then we’ll all be back together again on Wednesday, Nov. 7th.

Please continue to take care of yourselves. Tell your children who walk to bus stops or to school to stay away from any downed wires or trees. We want everyone to be safe.

Thank you
