Milford Schools Will Not Change Bus Routes

After a number of public comments calling for Milford Schools to accomodate Trumbull High School students, no action is planned by the BOE to change the current system.

Milford Schools Will Not Change Bus Routes

At some Board of Ed meetings, there are only one or two public comments. At the meeting Monday night, a significant number of Milford parents and students spoke up about the lack of bus accommodations for Milford students of Trumbull High School's Regional Agriscience Program.

"This is a dangerous road," said one concerned parent, who declared that the walk from his house to his child's bus stop is "over two miles."

"You're jeopardizing people's kids," the Milford parent continued.

Kelly Carville, a Junior at Trumbull High School, pointed out that "it's not really reasonable for a high school" student to walk that far.

"If you want to walk 45 minutes everyday, be my guest," Kelly told the board. "This is discouraging children to go to Trumbull High School."

The Board of Ed's Response

"They did not file a formal appeal with the board," said Board of Education Chief Operations Officer James Richetelli, who noted that the BOE does not vote on issues unless a letter is sent to the board for consideration.

Other Bus Issues

Tom Burns of 55 Bayshore Drive spoke at the meeting, saying that he believed, "the cost would be exactly the same" if students were dropped off at Trumbull High School after bus drivers made their rounds to Milford Public Schools.

Alex Simone of 32 Pearson Ave. noted that while she gets taken by a bus to Trumbull High School, but it's at 6 a.m. and she doesn't get back home until 3:45 p.m.

"I'm usually going to bed right now," Alex added.
