Donna J. Maykut, age 69, of Milford, CT beloved wife of Alexander Guthrie, died peacefully after a courageous two year battle with Cancer. She passed away on January 11, 2013 at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Born and raised in Westport, CT she was a 1962 graduate of Staples High School. Her first husband Kenneth Maykut pre-deceased her in 1998. Her parents were Donald “Red” Lomme and Aline Lomme.
Survivors include two loving brothers Peter Lomme of Eastern CT and Terrence Lomme of Essex, CT and a loving Sister-in-law Bette Lomme also of Essex, CT as well as two loving sons, Kenneth Maykut of Norwalk, CT and Jeb Stewart Maykut of Brooklyn, NY a niece Wendy Lomme of Seattle, WA and two step-daughters Michele Noble of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Meredith Lodge of Unionville, CT as well as three Grandchildren, Thayer Noble, Alexander Noble and Lulu Lodge.
She also leaves behind two loving cats Marley & Belle. She was proud to receive her bachelor’s degree from the University of Eastern Kentucky and her Master’s Degree from the University of Bridgeport. She was a retired teacher who not only loved her job but all of the students she taught throughout the years.
She taught at Franklin Elementary School (Bridgeport, CT) from 1967 to 1970, Melissa Jones Elementary School (Guilford, CT) from 1970 to 1981, Grovetown Elementary School (Grovetown, GA) from 1985-1987, Harding High School (Bridgeport, CT) from 1987-1988, Tracey Elementary School and Wolfpit School (Norwalk, CT) from 1988 to 1989, Roton Middle School (Norwalk, CT) from 1989 to 1994, Watertown High School (Watertown, CT) from 1994-1997, Tubman Middle School (Augusta, GA) from 1997 to 2001 and East Shore Middle School (Milford, CT) from 2001 to 2009.
During her career she also taught classes at the University of New Haven and Voorhee’s College in South Carolina.
