Six Milford Businesses Cited for Selling Tobacco Products to Minors

On October 18, 2014 members of the Milford Police Department and staff members of the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program TPEP), conducted unannounced compliance inspections of establishments that sell tobacco products.

The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of eighteen.

Under the direction and supervision of DMHAS investigators, an underage youth, employed by the TPEP, entered the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products.

A total of 23 unannounced compliance inspections were conducted. Of this total, 36 establishments were found to be in violation of the Connecticut General Statute 53-344(b) Sale of Tobacco to minors under eighteen, which carries a $200 fine.

The offending clerks at these establishments were cited. The cigarette dealer license holder at each establishment also faces additional administrative sanctions from the Department of Revenue Services, the state agency that issues cigarette dealer licenses.

Milford Establishments found in violation are as follows: Corner Convenience 358 River St, Milford Smoke Junction LLC 487 Bridgeport Ave., Corner Food Mart 305 New Haven Ave., Post Road News & Deli Boston Post Rd., Mobil Mart 118 Plain Rd., and Shell Food Mart 524 New Haven Ave.

It should also be noted that the following Milford businesses were found to be in compliance with the law: Colony News & Lotto 400 Boston Post Rd, Krauszers 631 Milford Point Rd., Cumberland Farms Boston Post Rd., Patriot Fuels 719 Boston Post Rd, Family Mart 561 New Haven Ave., Shell 1345 New Haven Ave., Galaxy Fuel Food Mart 180 New Haven Ave., Smoke & Convenience Junction 762 Boston Post Rd., IMart 548 Naugatuck Ave., Speedy Mart Food Store 109 Meadowside Rd, J&J Mart 2017 Bridgeport Ave., Suremart 695 Bridgeport Ave, BP Milford 300 Bridgeport Ave., Sunoco/Sun Spots 298 Boston Post Rd., Krauszers 361 Bridgeport Ave., Wheels 365 365 Old Gate Ln., and Milford Sunoco 322 Old Gate Ln.
