MILFORD, CT — Firefighters extinguished a fire that ripped through a tractor-trailer that was transporting cartons of milk Friday morning, according to a statement from Battalion Chief/Public Information Officer Adam Hansen.

The Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call at 11:34 a.m. reporting an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer on fire at the intersection of Roses Mill Road and Woodmont Road.

Firefighters arrived to find the tractor/cab portion of the truck "fully involved with fire and extending into the trailer," according to the statement.

Firefighters began extinguishing the blaze in the cab. Then they had to access the trailer using saws, piercing nozzles, and other methods to extinguish the fire that had extended into that area.

The truck was transporting cartons of milk, which had to be removed so that firefighters could gain access.

Several agencies responded including the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Health Department, and the Coast Guard due to possible runoff into storm drains.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
