A Menorah Lighting on the Monroe Green

A large crowd braved the cold for Monroe's first Menorah Lighting Thursday night.

The Hanukkah Menorah is lit to commemorate the Jewish Maccabees' miraculous victory over the Greek-Syrian army and the one-days-worth of pure oil that miraculously lasted for eight days in the Temple.

The town of Monroe hosted a Menorah Lighting for the first time on the Town Green in a ceremony on Thursday night. Rabbi Stock of Fairfield put up the Menorah before a large crowd on the cold night.
