Officers arrested a man for DUI after he hit a tree, are investigating a theft at Northeast Laser Engraving and received a report of dumped shingles at Wolfe Park.

Crash Leads to DUI. Theft of Cash, Credit. Dumping in the Park

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

DUI on Hammertown

A Hammertown Road woman reported seeing a black '09 BMW 335 crash into a tree near her home — close to Route 111 — at 7:48 p.m. on Feb. 1, and described a white male with black hair walking toward Monroe Turnpike, according to the report.

Officers found the man, who police say had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and was uncooperative, refusing to answer questions. A check of the BMW's registration identified the man, Jeffrey Cull, 46, of Trailside Drive, as the owner.

Police said Cull told them he fled the scene because he was going to get his son on Trailside.

Field sobriety tests determined Cull was under the influence leading to his arrest and he later refused to participate in breath tests at police headquarters, according to police.

Cull was charged with DUI, driving without insurance, evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on a total of $1,000 bond for a Feb. 11 court date.

Theft at Northeast Laser Engraving

Northeast Laser Engraving, 268 Main Street, reported the theft of $300 cash and of a company credit card on Feb. 4. The items were last seen on Feb. 1 at 6 p.m., according to police.

The Chase Visa card and cash were kept in a lock box with a key kept in a place known to several employees, police said.

Charges made on the credit card since the theft include $44 at Lowe's, $101.13 at BJ’s and $48.31 at BJ's Fuel for a total of $193.44. Police are investigating.

Dumping in the Park

The park ranger was on routine patrol at Wolfe Park Wednesday afternoon when he found what appeared to be two wheel barrel loads worth of roofing shingles dumped in a pile by a pine tree and covered up with branches, police said.

A Public Works Department crew had to spend time cleaning it up, according to the report.
