Work On Fan Hill Substation Led to Library's Brief Closing

The power went off and the library's generator failed to kick on like it's supposed to, according to police.

Work On Fan Hill Substation Led to Library's Brief Closing

A work crew was trying to remove a fallen tree from a substation on Fan Hill Road Wednesday afternoon, which caused the power to jump, according to police, who said the generator at Edith Wheeler Memorial Library failed to kick on and the library had to be closed.

Those using the library to read, use the Internet and recharge their electronic devices are now able to use the main level until 8 p.m., but the children's library downstairs is still closed.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek informed residents of the closing and reopening on his Twitter account. The following are his Tweets:

12:51 p.m.

"The Library is now closed for the night due to unforeseen generator problems. I will update you with further information as available."

1:23 p.m.

"OK a tad of better news....the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, Main level only is reopen until 8:00PM."
