Get the Candy Ready! Monroe Celebrates Halloween Friday

Trick or Treating was postponed until Nov. 9, due to hazardous conditions from Hurricane Sandy.

Get the Candy Ready! Monroe Celebrates Halloween Friday

Monroe residents just weathered a hurricane and a nor'easter, so it may be easy to forget the town postponed celebration of Halloween to Nov. 9 ... which is this Friday. But there's still time to buy candy and fill a bowl for the young ghosts, goblins and other characters who come to your door.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek had strongly recommended that families not take their children out on Halloween Night on Oct. 31, because Hurricane Sandy left loose branches and trees which posed a constant threat of falling down.

Many townspeople still wanted to have Halloween for their children, prompting the decision to have it on Nov. 9. So don't be caught off guard on Friday night when you hear the doorbell followed by a chorus of "Trick or Treat!"
