Police Respond to Complaints of Solicitors Going Door-to-Door

All solicitors, with the exception of representatives of non-profits, must have a vendor permit on them when going door-to-door.

Police Respond to Complaints of Solicitors Going Door-to-Door

The following is a press release from the Monroe Police Department:

The Monroe Police Department has received several complaints of door-to-door solicitors in the neighborhoods of Monroe. Any person selling goods or services is required to undergo a background check at the Monroe Police Department.

Upon completion of that background check, they will be issued a vendor permit. This is a laminated permit with their identifying information and photograph, and must be displayed when soliciting.

  • Allowable solicitation hours are between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

If you are approached by a solicitor who is not displaying his or her permit, you may request to see it. If they do not have one, please notify the police department.

Non-profit organizations are exempt from the permitting process.
