Sandy Scares Off Trick or Treating

First Selectman Steve Vavrek "highly recommends" that there be no trick or treating this Halloween due to hazards from the storm.

Sandy Scares Off Trick or Treating

UPDATE: First Selectman Steve Vavrek has since postponed trick or treating to Friday, Nov. 9.

Loose limbs, wobbly trees and low hanging power lines will still haunt Monroe on Halloween Night and the lingering threats from Hurricane Sandy has influenced First Selectman Steve Vavrek's decision to ask residents to refrain from trick or treating on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Vavrek said he highly recommends that people do not go out on Halloween Night as a safety precaution due to serious hazards posed by debris that could still come down.

Last year, Monroe cancelled trick or treating for the same reason after an early snowstorm in October and Trunk or Treat was held in the parking lot at Wolfe Park for a safe celebration of Halloween.

The second annual Trunk or Treat was held at Masuk last weekend and attracted a huge crowd and some speculated it was due to the forecast for Hurricane Sandy.
