If you are a veteran, thank you for your service and sacrifice!

This important tax information is for you. There are exemptions you may not be taking advantage of or perhaps you were not aware! Here's the bottom line:

Applicants must qualify every two years or re-qualify if you have applied in the past though no application is necessary to continue receiving the basic vet’s exemption. Applications are available at the Assessor’s Office at Montville Town Hall.

Income limits for the 2011 calendar year are as follows: Single $32,300 or Married $39,500.

The filing deadline is October 1, 2012.

To apply for the programs you must submit the following:

1) completed applications (available at the Assessor’s Office)

2) copy of your IRS Form 1040 (tax return) for 2011
3) copy of Social Security 1099 Form showing your yearly benefits for 2011
.

It's important to note that if you do not file an income tax return, you must provide copies of all your statements of income. This includes all wages, dividends, interest income, annuities, pensions, alimony, net income from rental properties or the net income from the sale of real estate. And remember, also included as income are your Social Security (Form 1099), all IRA income that is taxable, veterans’ pension, railroad retirement, and unemployment compensation. NOTE: QUALIFYING INCOME is defined as adjusted gross income and tax-exempt interest, plus any other income not included in adjusted gross income. Basically, all money you received are to be considered part of qualifying income.
