Naugatuck Police K-9 Sniffs Out Computer Theft Suspect

A Branford man is accused of trying to steal a computer from Wal-Mart.

A Naugatuck police K-9 helped sniff out a suspect, who allegedly attempted to steal a computer from a local Wal-Mart late Thursday, police said.

Police said they received a complaint of a shop lifting at 10:05 p.m. Pedro Declet, 51, of Village Lane in Branford, is accused of removing a security device from an HP Computer, police said.

He allegedly attempted to steal it, police said, while adding the computer was valued at $389.

But as Declet was trying to take the computer he was approached by Loss Prevention employees, and Declet ran from the store and hid in the one of the bushes near the Wal-Mart, police said.

A police K-9 was able to locate Declet, who was charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, and interfering with an officer.

He was released after posting $25,000 bond.
