Cops: Man Charged, Found Roaming Around Empty New Canaan Bank

Cops: Man Charged, Found Roaming Around Empty New Canaan Bank
Police charged a Stamford man with simple trespass after he was found wandering around in a closed bank, cloudy from a party the night before, authorities described this week.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, John Craig, 24, of Glenbrook Road, was found wandering around the inside of an Elm Street bank when police responded to an alarm there on Friday, August 30, at approximately 6:39 a.m.

Ogrinc said Craig had been at a friend's house the night before for a party and took off for a walkabout in downtown New Canaan. He tried the door to a bank that was closed while looking for a bathroom, police said.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) for Craig, the door to the bank was found unlocked and open.

When police spotted Craig walking around inside, they approached him and asked him what he was doing at the scene. Craig said he was looking for his phone and did not realize the establishment was a bank. Police recovered the phone in question from the bank's bathroom.

Ogrinc said nothing in the bank had been disturbed and everything was in order. Bank security was reviewing security footage to make sure nothing else had occurred during Craig's time inside the establishment, she said.
