Increased Traffic Enforcement Coming as New Canaan Schools Open

Increased Traffic Enforcement Coming as New Canaan Schools Open
New Canaan students are heading back to school this coming Monday and police are going to be out in force to make sure kids are arriving safe at school and everyone else remains mindful motorists.

"School is starting Monday and motorists need to be extra careful," said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. "There are kids on the road, walking home or at bus stops. [Motorists should] leave a little early... give yourself more time so you're not in a hurry and stuck behind a bus."

According to Orginc, increased traffic enforcement will kick off Monday, August 26, and take place primarily during the school start and dismissal times and concentrated in school zone areas.

A "notable police presence" in those areas will be observing motorists for violations, included distracted driving and cell phone violations, throughout the whole week.
On Wednesday, there will be a particular increase in traffic enforcement and officers will be conducting selective enforcement.

"Our goal is always to keep pedestrians and other motorists safe by enforcing motor vehicle laws while educating motorists and the general public," said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.
