New Canaan Public Schools has been ranked as the top public school system in Connecticut and as the 19th best public school system in the country, according to the 2015 rankings released by Niche, a national online educational and neighborhood ranking service.
And New Canaan High School was ranked the second best high school in Connecticut. New Canaan Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Luizzi said, “This is another testament to the great work that’s occurring throughout our school district every day.”
Niche’s Best Public School Districts survey ranked 8,738 school districts based on dozens of key statistics and 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 students and parents. A high ranking indicates that the district contains great schools with exceptional teachers, sufficient resources, and a diverse set of high-achieving students who rate their experiences very highly. Information on the methodology can be found here.

The New Canaan district received grades of A+ in the areas of academics, health and safety, teachers and extracurriculars and activities; an A for resources and facilities, and sports; a C+ for student culture and diversity and a 4.3 out of 5 in the parent/student overall experience survey.
Luizzi added, “I believe it is impossible to quantify the quality of the educational experience using a single, or even a few indicators, however, on Friday I became aware of another school district ranking by Niche.com. According to their website, ‘Niche is transforming the way people make big life decisions. Founded in 2002 by Carnegie Mellon University students… We’re obsessed with providing students, families, and professionals with best-in-class content and deep insight into big life decisions…”

“Unlike other rankings, which use AP data as the sole datapoint, Niche’s methodology includes grading for Academics (50%), Health and Safety (10%), Student Culture & Diversity (10%), Survey Responses (10%), Teachers (10%), Resources & Facilities (5%), Extracurriculars & Activities (2.5%), and Sports/Fitness (2.5%). This methodology appears to be a more well-rounded, holistic approach to ranking. Although I never want to place too much emphasis on these systems, I’m proud to share that, using the methodology above, the New Canaan Public Schools were rated #1 in Connecticut, and 19th in the country in the 2015 Niche Rankings.,” Luizzi said.
