An article in the spring issue of the University of Vermont’s alumni magazine features some familiar faces around town, including New Canaan’s highest-elected official, a prominent business leader and a man with a hand in nearly every public works project here.

Catamount Country South” by Jay Goyette starts like this: “Established as Canaan Parish in 1731, and incorporated in 1801, the town of New Canaan, Connecticut, has come a long way from its roots as a farming community and post-Revolutionary War shoe manufacturing center. Today, the upscale town boasts, among other things, one of the best school systems in the country and a solid sense of community.”

Sounds about right. Goyette then reveals that the following people are all “Catamounts” (UVM’s nickname): First Selectman Rob Mallozzi (class of 1984), New Canaan Chamber of Commerce President Tucker Murphy (’83), Assistant Director of Public Works and Senior Engineer Tiger Mann (’87), Police Commission Member Stuart Sawabini (’77), lead labor negotiator and attorney Chris Hodgson (’82) and other prominent and longtime residents.

Nice article – check it out.
