The child sustained serious injuries before being rescued by a passerby.

NEW HAVEN, CT — An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after being mauled by a pit bull dog, according to police. Police were called to a Lexington Avenue residence Nov. 10 around 10:40 a.m.
A child who does not reside at the address was paling in the driveway when a loose pit bull attacked. A passerby managed to separate the dog from the child and hold onto it until police arrived and secured it.
The 11-year-old was bitten in the face and while injuries are significant they aren't life-threatening, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. He was treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital's Pediatric Emergency Department.
