1. Cloudy and warm, with a high temperature of 49 degrees. There's a chance of showers later in the evening. Sunrise is 7:13 a.m., sunset is 4:42 p.m.

2. Capt. Kenneth W. Megan of the Coast Guard Band is retiring this year and today marks the final time he’ll lead the band in one of his favorite concerts. “An Afternoon at the Movies—Captain’s Favorites” features selections from the scores of movies ranging from a Laurel and Hardy silent film to Mission Impossible. The concert is free and takes place at Leamy Hall.

5. Salmon P. Chase, who served as Secretary of the Treasury in President Abraham Lincoln’s administration, was born on this day in 1808. Chase—who also served in the Senate, as governor of Ohio, and as chief justice of the Supreme Court—died in 1873 at the age of 65.
