Nathan Hale School Identified As "School Of Distinction"

Department of Education names Connecticut schools making gains on Connecticut Mastery Test

Nathan Hale School Identified As "School Of Distinction"

The Nathan Hale School has been named as one of this year's Schools of Distinction by the Connecticut Department of Education.

The school was one of 17 recognized for having the highest progress among schools that have not yet met the state's target of a school performance index ranking of 88. The department highlighted these schools as being in the top 10 percent of schools making gains in their respective groups, with achievement gaps of less than 10 school performance index points for the majority of their subgroups. The schools also improved test results by at least three school performance index points between 2011 and 2012.

The rankings are made based on the results of the Connecticut Mastery Test and Connecticut Academic Performance Test. Other "schools of distinction" rankings recognize the schools that have reached the school performance index threshold and continue to meet the standards for the "highest progress" distinction; the top 10 highest performing schools overall in the state; and the schools that have the best performance by the the five traditionally underperforming subgroups on the tests (students with disabilities, English language learners, black students, Hispanic students and students eligible for free or reduced price lunch).

The Nathan Hale School is one of four elementary schools in the New London Public Schools. Its students currently attend classes at the Harbor School as work is done on the Nathan Hale School building to prepare it for its role as an arts magnet school.
