Good Samaritans Help Save Man's Life In Newtown

The man had a medical event while riding his bicycle and bystanders began performing CPR.

NEWTOWN, CT — A bicyclist's's life was saved after bystanders and emergency responders performed CPR after he had a medical event.

Police got a 911 call Saturday morning reporting that a pedestrian was possibly struck by a vehicle and that bystanders had started CPR.

Officers arrived and took over CPR. Shortly after that firefighters arrived with a defibrillator and used it before the victim was transported to the hospital. It turned out the man hadn't been hit by a vehicle, but had some kind of medical emergency as he peddled up Mt. Pleasant in the area of Tory Lane.

The man survived and is expected to make a full recovery.

"I have been around a long time and have never witnessed an individual in this man's condition come back the way he did," said Lt. Aaron Bahamonde, police spokesman. "It was truly a miracle and the direct result of good Samaritans, first responders and help from above coming together that this man is alive today."
